God has raised up MANY outreaches, both large and small, that are true to His Word and are reaching out to people needing His love and His life-changing Good News. The two featured above are extremely important, but of course are only a small part of what God is doing.
If we are Christians, our purpose in life is not to collect more and more things, or live for pleasure and satisfaction in this life; rather, we are called to be laborers in God's harvest. In addition to what we call the Lord's Prayer, Jesus also asked us to pray another vital prayer:
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.
- Jesus, in Matthew 9:36-38
I believe that every Christian is to be a laborer. A nursing home resident may pray. Missionaries and others on "the front lines" will testify as to how vitally important prayer is to their work.
Some who are strong and healthy may, as God leads them, GO, and become actively involved in what God is doing. ("Go" might mean anything from a few steps to thousands of miles.)
Even a brief visit to the web sites of Christian missions and other organizations will reveal that it takes money to keep things going, and support those on the front lines so that they can do their work effectively. For this reason, God calls many to live a more moderate lifestyle so that they can GIVE. And typically those who give will be very motivated to PRAY, because they are concerned for the Spirit of God to use the minstry or missionary they are supporting.
So far, my list of links is very small. I have only scratched the surface of ministries that God is using! Just yesterday I opened a letter from a minstry I had never heard of, and would have tossed the letter except that I noted the ECFA logo at the end of the letter, alerting me of their voluntary submission to the priniciples of financial integrity required by that organization. So I ended up keeping the letter and becoming aware of still another way that God is sending out His word and transforming lives!
